William
P. Atkinson, M.D., Ph.D., Dr. Atkinson studied medicine in
Scotland. After working briefly as a medical doctor, he heard God's
call to the ministry and took up a position on the ministry team at
Kensington
Temple, London.
While there, he gained a Master's Degree in Theology from the London
School of Theology. His dissertation examining Pentecostal responses
to James D. G. Dunn’s book on the baptism in the Holy Spirit was
published in the Journal of Pentecostal Theology.In
1997, Dr. Atkinson became Principal of Regents Theological College,
South of Manchester. While at the college, he pursued a Ph.D. with Edinburgh
University, completing this in 2007. In the same
year, he moved back into local church ministry in
South-East England. He has served as the Treasurer of
the Association of Bible College Principals (2003 – 2004), as a
Member of the Board of Reference for Open Hands Ministry to
profoundly deaf people (1998 – 2004), as a Trustee for the
International Correspondence Institute (1997 – 2005), and is
currently Chair of Trustees for Frishta Children’s Home,
India.
He is the author of The "Spiritual
Death" of Jesus: A Pentecostal Investigation (Leiden:
Brill, 2009). Dr. Atkinson has published a number of popular
articles and the book Now Read This, a biblical hermeneutics
for the “person in the pew.” His academic reviews and articles
have been published in the British Journal of Theological Education,
Australasian
Pentecostal Studies, The Journal of the European Pentecostal
Theological Association, Refleks, The Evangelical
Review of Theology, and the aforementioned Journal of

Paul Elbert, M.S., M.A.,
Physicist-theologian and New Testament scholar, works mainly in
interpretive methods and narrative-rhetorical backgrounds with
respect to Luke-Acts, including Greco-Roman education and the
fulfillment of prophecy theme. He is co-chair of the Steering
Committee for the Formation of Luke-Acts Section within the Society
of Biblical Literature and a member of the New Testament Section
within the Tyndale Fellowship for Biblical and Theological
Research.
He served as chairperson of the charismatic themes in
Luke-Acts five-year dialogue within the Evangelical Theological
Society and serves on the editorial board of the Asian Journal
of Pentecostal Studies.
He has served as
editor of two festschrifts for American Old Testament scholars,
Essays on Apostolic Themes and Faces of Renewal, and his
writings have appeared, for example, in Theologische Zeitschrift,
Catholic Biblical Quarterly, Journal of Biblical
Literature, Zeitschrift für die neutestamentliche
Wissenschaft, Journal of Theological Studies,
Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society, Evangelical
Quarterly, Trinity Journal, Refleks: Med
Karismatisk Kristendom i Focus, Pneuma: The Journal of the
Society for Pentecostal Studies, and the Journal of
Pentecostal Theology. Professor Elbert is the founding editor of
the Journal of Biblical and Pneumatological Research,
a new international peer-reviewed journal dedicated to
narratively and rhetorically minded exegesis of biblical and
related texts. Topics include theological and
pneumatological interpretation, the role of spiritual
experience within authorial, canonical, and contemporary
contexts, and the activity of Ruach
Yahweh, Ruach Elohim, and various identifications of the
Holy Spirit. The journal hopes to stimulate new thematic and
narrative-critical exploration and discovery in potentially
under-explored areas of research.
Elbert
is a member of the Research Board at the Dominican Biblical
Research Institute in Ireland. The goal of the
institute is to facilitate and participate in the Ph.D.
training of European research students in the
areas of biblical intertextuality and in the dialogue
between the bible and science. The Dominicans began their ministry
in Ireland in the thirteenth century.
He was recently awarded a grant from the Templeton
Foundation to explore the reading of the Genesis creation
narrative in Pentecostal thought. He is a member of the
American Physical Society and the American Association for the
Advancement of Science and formerly served as chairperson of the
Georgia Superconducting Super Collider Committee. |

Peter Gräbe, Doctor Divinitatis, is a
Professor of Divinity at Regent University where, among other
courses, he teaches graduate level New Testament Greek, Exegesis,
Pauline Theology, Hermeneutical Philosophy, Systematic Theology, and
Biblical Theology. Dr. Gräbe has published a number of articles in
academic journals such as Hervormde Teologiese Studies [Reformed
Theological Studies], Scriptura,
Nederduitse Gereformeerde Teologiese Tydskrif [Dutch
Reformed Theological Studies], Biblische Zeitschrift,
Neotestamentica, and
Pneuma: The Journal of the Society for Pentecostal Studies.
He has contributed to a number of Festschrifts and other
multi-authored works.
His books
include New Covenant, New Community: The Significance of
Biblical and Patristic Covenant Theology for Current Understanding,

James D. Hernando, Ph.D., is Professor of New Testament at the Assemblies of God
Theological Seminary. Dr. Hernando's broad teaching experience
encompasses public and undergraduate, as well as graduate levels of
education. He has been a contributing author for Signs and
Wonders in Ministry Today, "Greek Word Studies" in The
Complete Biblical Library, the commentary on 2 Corinthians in
the Full Life Bible Commentary to the New Testament, and
author of various articles in Paraclete, Pentecostal
Evangel, and Pathways for Young Adults. His latest
publication is Dictionary of Hermeneutics: A Concise Guide to
Terms, Names, Methods and Expressions (Gospel Publishing House,
2005).
To enhance his
linguistic heritage, he completed an intensive Spanish language
course at Centro de Investigaciones Culturales y Estudios
Linguòsticos, San Josò, Costa Rica during the summer of 2000. Dr.
Hernando is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society, the
Society of Biblical Literature, and the Society for Pentecostal
Studies.
In addition to his Ph.D. (Drew University) degree, Dr. Hernando
earned two bachelor’s and three master’s degrees (State University

Lee Roy Martin, D.Th., is an
Assistant Professor of Hebrew and Old Testament at the Church of God
Seminary, where he has taught since 1992. He has served as a Church
of God pastor in seven different states (1977-2004), as a District
Overseer, State Youth and CE Board member, State Council member,
State Director of Ministerial Development, and State Ordination
Board member. He has preached in Church of God State Conventions,
Prayer Conferences, youth camps, and pastors' conferences. Since
resigning his pastorate in 2004, he has preached throughout
Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. He has
taught Bible Institutes, Ministerial Development Institutes, and
Ministerial Internship Seminars, as well as classes at Lee
University, the Korean Bible Seminary, and the Puerto Rico extension
of the Church of God Theological Seminary. He also presented
several lectures for the Church of God School of Ministry video
series.
His writings
include An Introduction to Biblical Hebrew
(Cleveland, TN: Institute for Biblical Studies, 2002) and
Hebrew Heritage: An Introduction To the Language and
Traditions of Judaism, with a Dictionary of Biblical Hebrew
and Aramaic (Cleveland, TN: Institute for Biblical
Studies, 2005). Rev. Martin has presented a number of
conference papers and contributed a number of chapters to
multi-authored works.
He is a member of The
Society of Biblical Literature, The Society for Pentecostal
Studies, The American Schools of Oriental Research, and The
Wesleyan Theological Society, and he serves on the Editorial
Board of the online Journal The Journal of Biblical
Studies.
Professor Martin earned a bachelor’s degree from
Lee University, a master’s from the Church of God
Seminary, and a doctorate from the University of
South Africa. In addition to his academic degrees, he
spent three years at Mid-America Baptist Theological

William Menzies, Ph.D., an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God for 49 years, is
a retired missionary and educator. He received the Ph.D. degree from
the University of Iowa in Religion, with a concentration in American
Church History, and the M.A. degree from Wheaton College Graduate
School in Theology. He has served as pastor of three churches,
followed by twenty-three years of teaching at Central Bible College,
Evangel College, and the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS).
During his time at Evangel College, Dr. Menzies “tithed his time” in
overseas missionary teaching, usually in the Asia Pacific region. He
served on a special assignment as president of the Far East Advanced
School of Theology (FEAST, now known as the Asia Pacific Theological
Seminary, APTS) for one year.
Following
service at FEAST, he filled the role of academic dean for
two years at California Theological Seminary, a school that
later merged with AGTS. In 1988, he was commissioned a
missionary with the Assemblies of God and was installed the
next year as president of FEAST. He currently holds the
title of Chancellor, an honorary position with APTS. He has
served as editor of three periodicals, including the
Asian Journal of Pentecostal Studies.
In 1970, Dr. Menzies was one of the founders of the Society for
Pentecostal Studies and served as the society’s first president and
first editor of the SPS journal, Pneuma. His numerous journal
articles and books include Anointed to Serve, a history of
the Assemblies of God, Spirit and Power: Foundations of
Pentecostal Experience (co-author), and the Full Life Study
Bible (co-editor); he has also served as a consulting editor for
Christianity Today. |

Anthony Palma, Th.D., is an
emeritus professor of Greek, New Testament exegesis, and
theology. He has taught at a liberal arts college as well
as at Bible colleges and seminaries in the United States and
overseas. He presently serves on the adjunct faculty of the
Assemblies of God Theological Seminary and is a professor
emeritus of that institution.
Dr. Palma's academic credentials
include a master of arts in higher education from New York
University. Other graduate degrees are a master of divinity from
Biblical Seminary in New York (now New York Theological Seminary)
and a master of sacred theology and a doctor of theology from
Concordia Seminary, St. Louis.
Dr. Palma's chief writings include
the commentary on First Corinthians in Life in the Spirit
Commentary, The Spirit—God in Action, Galatians and Romans
(a self-study, college-level correspondence course), Baptism in
the Holy Spirit and The Holy Spirit: A Pentecostal
Perspective. He has also written numerous articles in two
series titled "Insight from the Greek" and "Word Study," some of
which have been translated into French, Romanian, Portuguese and
Spanish.
He is a past president of the
Society for Pentecostal Studies. He also served as a member of the
theology commission of the National Association of Evangelicals and
of the theological commission of the World Evangelical Fellowship.
He presently serves on the Assemblies of God Commission on Doctrinal
Purity.

Janet (Jenny) Meyer Everts, Ph.D., an ordained minister, is an Associate Professor of Religion
at Hope College (Holland, Michigan). Her publications include
articles in Christian History, Pneuma: The Journal of the
Society for Pentecostal Studies, Dictionary of Paul and His
Letters, Anchor Bible Dictionary, The Cresset, and
Journal of Pentecostal Theology. She contributed the chapter
"'Your Daughters Shall Prophesy,' Pentecostal Hermeneutics and the
Empowerment of Women" to The Globalization of Pentecostalism: A
Religion Made to Travel; she has received a grant from the Lily
Foundation to help with the expansion of the thesis of this chapter
to a book-length work.
Dr. Everts is a member of the Chicago Society
of Biblical Research and the Society for Pentecostal Studies, where
she has served as chair of the Diversity Group. |

James B. Shelton, Ph.D., is a Professor of New Testament and Early Christian Literature at
Oral Roberts University. His publications include contributions to
the Complete Biblical Library (Luke 2:18–4:13, commentary and
numerous articles on Greek words) and The Gospel of Matthew
in the Life in the Spirit Commentary of the New Testament. He
has also written numerous articles and papers for periodicals and
professional societies. In 1991, Dr. Shelton’s book Mighty in
Word and Deed: The Role of the Holy Spirit in Luke-Acts was
called “perhaps the most comprehensive study of the Holy Spirit in
Luke-Acts to date.” It is one of several monograph-length
interactions with James D. G. Dunn’s book Baptism in the Holy
Spirit. Dr. Shelton is a
founding member of the Glastonbury Fellowship, a Fellow with
the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology, a member of the
Society of Biblical Literature and the Society for
Pentecostal Studies, where he serves as the Biblical Studies

Roger Stronstad, D.D., is an
ordained minister of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada. Of his
thirty-one years at Summit Pacific College (formerly Western
Pentecostal Bible College), his titles have included Dean of
Education and Associate Professor. Between 1987 and 2004, he
fulfilled lectureship appointments at eight institutions, including
Regent College, Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, Asia Pacific
Theological Seminary, and Church of God Theological Seminary.
Dr. Stronstad has presented academic papers at conferences of the
Society of Pentecostal Studies, the Evangelical Theological Society,
and the Pentecostal World Conference. Among other periodicals, his
numerous articles have appeared in Pentecostal Testimony,
Pneuma, and Paraclete. His six books include The
Charismatic Theology of St. Luke, Spirit, Scripture and
Theology: A Pentecostal Perspective, The Prophethood of All
Believers, and the forthcoming Baptized and Filled with the
Holy Spirit. He has also served as a co-editor and contributor
on several multi-authored projects, including the Life in the
Spirit Study Bible and the Life in the Spirit Commentary on
the New Testament.
He served as an executive officer
of the Society for Pentecostal Studies from 1991-94. |

John Wyckoff, Ph.D., has
served as a pastor, preacher, teacher, and author for many years. He
currently serves as coordinator of the
Master of Arts in Theological Studies and
Professor of Bible and Theology at Southwestern Assemblies of God
University. He is well known
throughout the Assemblies of God for his writings on the Holy
Spirit. His dissertation topic at Baylor University was "The
Relationship of the Holy Spirit to Biblical Hermeneutics."
Wyckoff wrote the
chapter on "The Baptism in the Holy Spirit" in Systematic
Theology, published by Logion Press in 1994 and the
student's and leader's guide for the Roots of Pentecostal
Belief (2000). Recently,
he contributed the chapter on "The Inspiration and Authority
of Scripture" in The Bible, The Word of God published
by Gospel Publishing House in 2003. He is also a frequent
speaker at Christian Education training events. Wyckoff is a
